Power Plant Control System for Telecommunications

What is needed today is constant monitoring of the power supply system in order to discover problems before these problems have any effect on service, and avoid the costs of manual checks. A passive or "reactive" system which only collects alarms is not sufficient today.

All Italtel's power systems are equipped with microprocessors and testing tools for providing the following information to the Power Plant Control System (PPCS):

In addition, each piece of equipment can be individually turned on or off using remote commands.

The more sophisticated equipment can also test its alarm mechanisms by simulating faults.

The PPCS stores the information provided from power system and provides to the operator a powerful tool in terms of centralization of the data and statistical data retrieval.

The system also manages planned (preventive) maintenance activities and permits management to send out personnel to the site only when there is a real problem.

The main system functions, following TMN recommendations, are:

PPCS uses an object-oriented platform that supports different types of hardware computer and also supports standard software: UNIX (eg HP, SUN, etc); X Window graphical interface; MOTIF look and feel.
