The Linea UT SSP is simply a normal Linea UT combined local/ toll switch with extra software features. Thus there is no need for specialized training.
Although all existing Linea UT SSPs are normal urban exchanges serving normal traffic, it is possible to configure dedicated SSPs in any size in order to construct an overlay network. These can host only trunks, or can also host the lines sold to subscribers such as Green Number lines, centrex services for PVN customers, PABX lines, and PVN lines.
All existing Linea UT exchanges can be easily upgraded to add the SSP function. In addition, any exchanges installed with pre-standard versions of INAP will be upgraded to the ETSI and ITU-T versions. The Linea UT can easily handle multiple versions of INAP in cases in which some of the other vendors have not yet upgraded to the latest standards. Italtel is committed to open, standard interfaces and to the customization necessary for interfacing with national operations systems, such as billing systems and supervision systems.
The Linea UT is a highly modular system which can be configured from small rural exchanges to large urban exchanges hosting up to 100,000 lines. In is highly cost- effective and is ideal for situations in which growth is unpredictable, because it is easy to grow the exchange by adding new modules without substituting any hardware.
The Linea UT has been installed in 19 different countries around the world and currently has more than 16 million terminations in service.
The Linea UT offers the following advanced services:
The Linea UT is considered one of the world's most sophisticated systems with regard to operations and maintenance. It is ideal for situations requiring unattended operation and remote surveillance.
All modern systems have duplicated security blocks for centralized functions (such as processors and matrices) for reliability reasons. Linea UT system requirements go much beyond this, specifying that all possible maintenance actions be automatic, especially system recovery. For example, downloading of processors is almost always automatic. In addition, the system attempts to recover security blocks so that parts which do not have a hard fault can be put back into service without operator intervention.
Because the Linea UT is a distributed system, the effects of any duplex system down are limited to a single module; it is quite difficult to take a whole exchange out of service.
The result is that the Linea UT is one of the most reliable systems on the world market today.
Besides having a high capacity due to the powerful microprocessors in each module, the Linea UT is highly tolerant of traffic overloads. It has autonomous load-sharing mechanisms and has Network Traffic Management features.
The SSP application is based on the concept that certain "leaves" of the routing "tree" are "trigger points". This means that the number called corresponds to an IN service. The SSP, instead of performing the rest of the call processing task, sends a message to the SCP and executes the instructions it receives.
The elementary functions of an SSP are normal telephony tasks, such as:
In order to provide IN services in networks which are too small or have too little traffic for a full-sized IN implementation, the Linea UT offers a built-in SCP with all the IN services and all the basic features, including mobility, and a built-in STP and SMS. These features are available even on small exchanges.
Thus neither the size of the network nor the size of the exchange are obstacles to the implementation of the most advanced features.
