The IN Features

The IN services have been described in a very simple way. In fact, they are quite sophisticated and have a number of features associated with them.

Some of these features are:

Routing by Calling Subscriber

Routing to the service subscriber destinations depends on the city code of the calling party. This is useful for features like Green Number in which the IN service subscriber may have hundreds of operators answering calls in several cities.

Time and Day Routing

The routing or call processing treatment depends on the time of day and the day of the week that the call is made, or even the day of the year. This includes the choice of announcements to play.

Call Allocator

The service subscribers specifies the percentage of calls to be distributed (randomly) among two or more destinations or alternate call processing treatment.

Courtesy Response

The call is completed to an announcement instead of a service subscriber line. Different announcements may be defined based on the reason for unsuccessful call completion (e.g., calls outside business hours, all lines are busy).

Call Prompter

The service subscriber provides an announcement which requests the caller to enter a DTMF digit or series of digits. The digit provides additional information which is used to direct routing or, as a security check, during call processing. An example would be "Please dial 2 if you want to make a new order, 3 if you want a customer service representative, 4 if you want the repair department, 5 if you have a billing problem."

Alternate Destination on Busy

The customer can specify a series of alternative destinations to which calls should be routed if the primary destination is busy.

Call Queueing

A call is held in a queue whenever all lines are busy. On entering the queue, a caller hears a custom delay announcement informing him/her that the call will be answered when a line becomes available.

Command Routing

The service subscriber or Administration personnel can predefine a set of alternative destinations or alternate call processing treatments to which traffic can be switched in case of emergency or unanticipated demand peaks.

Closed User Group

Employees of a PVN subscriber can be members of a set who are normally authorized to make and/or receives calls only within the group.

Authorization Code

Certain PVN users can override the PVN calling restrictions pertaining to the PVN station from which the call is made.

Remote Access

Authorized PVN users can access the PVN from any non-PVN line.

Service Blocking

The Administration can use IN resources efficiently by processing some calls at the SSP, thereby reducing the number of calls to get processed by the SCP. This feature is typically used for Mass Calling and Televoting services.
