Developing TMN Technology

The marketplace for telecommunications products and services is undergoing rapid and fundamental change. The development of telecommunications network from integrated and intelligent digital networks to broadband multimedia applications, deregulation and globalization of the telecom market, the growing demand of new sophisticated services, are causing competitive pressure to increase. Increased competition and higher customer expectations are driving network operators to reduce costs, improve quality of service and introduce new services rapidly and competitively.

Operation Support Systems is the key factor to response to this challenge, focusing to guarantee not only a high degree of network quality but a high degree of service quality.

To this aim TMN has been defined as an open environment of OSS, which provides to the network operators the standard criteria for an integrated management of the planning, provisioning, configuration, administration and maintenance functions.

TMN reduces operational costs through:

Standardization permits more rapid development for the introduction of new services. It gives the operators more flexibility through the use of consistent interfaces.

While the benefits of TMN are impressive, nevertheless telecom operators must contend with existing management infrastructure. A pragmatic approach in adopting TMN architecture is required to preserve the investments made in the existing infrastructure.

Italtel's approach in the adoption of TMN architecture has always been aimed at:
