VG-AnyLAN (IEEE 802.12)

The IEEE 802.12 LAN standard defines a different media access control mechanism as well as a set of cabling specifications for transmitting Ethernet frames at 100-Mbps over links connected to VG-AnyLAN hubs.

The "VG" stands for "Voice Grade" which means that this system transmits 100-Mbps signals over four-pair (eight wire) copper cables using standard telephone grade (Category 3) cables. "AnyLAN" means that this system was designed to transmit data using either IEEE 802.5 token-ring frames or IEEE 802.3 Ethernet frames.
